ABSTRACT

Feminism, a theory of social, political, and economic equality among the sexes, has had a limited impact on the library science profession. Despite library science’s tradition of being a female-dominated profession, masculine styles of leadership and inequality in the structure and pay scales of libraries abound. Feminism, which rejects hierarchy and encourages cooperation and collaboration, would greatly benefit the library science profession, were it to be adopted uniformly by librarians and the library community.
