ABSTRACT

The previous chapter highlights that withstanding the ongoing impact of school exclusion is dependent upon the resilience the young people developed through parents, home and community experiences.

This chapter explores the young people’s eventual transitional success and the role of the peer or friendship network. In this regard, the chapter shows how friendship networks reinforce their selfworth, reputations and sense of togetherness. Peer groups encourage participants to cope with the stress of exclusion and transform their circumstances.
