ABSTRACT
However, the body of existing research evidence has not been so conclusive and there is a need for more research to be undertaken. This chapter discusses methods commonly used in early childhood education research on IT, and addresses ethical and other issues that need to be taken into account when developing or adopting practical methods for investigating young children’s learning with IT. The focus is on children aged three to six years old who attend early childhood education settings. Computer use is not recommended for children younger than three, and after the age of six children in many countries enter primary education. However, as the age range definitions of kindergarteners vary, this is identified as a methodological issue.
