ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses the interplay between public relations and public diplomacy from the perspectives of governments, nongovernmental organizations, and transnational corporations (TNCs). The trend of nonstate actors’ participation in public diplomatic eff orts is addressed. Subsequently, emphasis is placed on the role of TNCs as actors that increasingly have the power to infl uence or reinforce host government socioeconomic priorities, decisions, and actions, as well as the ways in which host governments and the citizenry defi ne their relationship with TNCs.
