ABSTRACT
The purpose of this study is to provide readers with a brief overview of the complex considerations that serve as the basis for the People’s Republic of China’s (PRC) continued claims to Taiwan. It shows how analysts tend to embrace differing explanations when seeking to understand Beijing’s irredentist position toward the island’s status. In conclusion, the author suggests that, while some factors may not possess much explanatory value, others have grown in significance.
