ABSTRACT

Across Latin America, several MBA degree programs have in recent years become internationally accredited by AACSB International, AMBA, and EQUIS. Painstakingly prepared self-assessment reports of the region’s leading schools have been reviewed by one or more of these bodies; in turn, dozens of teams made up of North American or European professors have made site visits to screen achievements and challenges faced by schools applying for accreditation. Can the region’s business schools now be considered world class? How do the region’s best schools compare with those they emulate? What challenges do these schools face as they vie for regional leadership and global positioning? How has Latin America’s political left turn impacted schools such as IESA, in Venezuela?
