ABSTRACT

This book is the product of the collaboration of a group of scholars in different Italian university institutions which started in 2004.1 We had a common interest in corpus linguistics, discourse analysis, and institutional and media discourse, though we had all been pursuing rather different lines of research. In 2003 the group put together a bid to the Italian university funding body for a research project which combined our interests. It had the offi cial title Corpora and Discourse: A Quantitative and Qualitative Linguistic Analysis of Political and Media Discourse on the Confl ict in Iraq in 2003, and became known by the acronym CorDis.2
