ABSTRACT

The postmodern world, with its open and democratic overtones, is at hand. Promises of progress, equality, and new directions flood upon us. How we select and send news is changing. How news is defined promises to change our perception of the world. A certain populist order is seen coming to save increasingly chaotic societies. But where do we find populist wisdom, credibility, and authority? Here and there perhaps in certain universities and religious groups. But seldom where it needs to be: among national political leaders, in giant, multi-national corporations, and in public discourse.
