ABSTRACT
Slovenia is a constitutional democracy with a division of powers between the executive, legislative, and judicial branches. It is a small but open economy with a GDP of €33 billion. In 2006, Slovenia’s GDP per capita was €19,200, which is 77% of the average per capita income of the enlarged EU, placing Slovenia 16th among the 25 member states (in the top spot is Luxemburg with twice the average and on the bottom Latvia with 41% of the average). The annual growth rate of Slovenia’s economy in 2006 was 5.2%. Services contribute 63%, industry 35%, and agriculture 2% to the GDP. It is a member of the European Union and NATO, and its currency is the Euro.
