ABSTRACT

This chapter considers the extent to which Liverpool has experienced a renaissance in its urban design and development fortunes following a period of very severe economic decline. The chapter is based on a review of recent documents related to development including design policy and guidance, two recent site visits to reflect on the developments of the last decade and a series of ten extended interviews undertaken with people closely associated with design and development in the city. This recent work complements eight years of living and working in the city during the 1990s.
