ABSTRACT

Conscience is an ability or faculty that leads to feelings of remorse when one is acting against his/her moral values, or that informs one’s moral judgment before performing an action. Conscience can prompt different people to act differently depending on their beliefs or instincts, but most people would agree that hurting others, within the context of interpersonal relationships, is not an acceptable moral value. Thus, conscience can be seen as an important barrier to aggression.
