ABSTRACT
Introduction In 2009 November, the New Oxford American Dictionary announced that the Word of the Year is “unfriend,” solidifying the arrival of the Web into the lexicological mainstream (Gross 2009). The entry reads:
unfriend – verb – To remove someone as a “friend” on a social networking site such as Facebook. As in, “I decided to unfriend my roommate on Facebook after we had a fight.”
