ABSTRACT
The Chinese centrally administered municipalities (CAMs) serve as locomotives of national development. Economically speaking, these CAMs are embedded in China’s core areas of economic production. From the political aspect, CAMs shoulder the missions of social harmony and political stability of China’s heartland regions. These CAMs have experienced ups and downs during the six decades after the establishment of the People’s Republic of China in 1949.
