Issues-centered social studies (ICSS) off ers a foundation that supports multidimensional teaching and learning experiences. Th is approach to teaching aff ords students the opportunity to more fully engage as well as develop their higher order thinking skills as they explore persistent societal dilemmas. Even so, ICSS does not have a widespread presence in social studies classrooms.
