It can be said that teacher education students oft en refer to their fi eld practices, or “practicum” experiences, as where they learn the nuts and bolts of their future profession (Segall, 2002). It is indeed these onsite practices (Britzman, 1991; Ginsburg, 1988) that many future educators deem the central ingredient in preparing them for the realities of the world of classroom instruction. Teacher candidates try out teaching strategies and make the transition from theory to practice during experiences where they learn the practice of teaching (Halvorsen, 2006).
