ABSTRACT
Professional recognition of the importance of this has followed the upsurge in suicide survivor groups. In the USA 250 groups are listed on the American Association of Suicidology website. In Europe there are 200 similar groups listed by the International Association for Suicide Prevention (Berman et al. 2006). Postvention has become a key aim of social policy; in the UK the National Suicide Prevention Strategy for England (NIMHE 2002) included promoting the mental health of those bereaved by suicide as a key objective.
