ABSTRACT
Demand for recreation is changing as the demographic structure of the European population changes as explained in Chapter 1, together with many other social, economic and environmental transitions. The information required on the use of nature areas by different population groups, as well as of the supply of areas and services suitable for recreation, has increased remarkably. This makes it important to develop knowledge on the intensity and forms of the recreational use in natural areas such as forests.
