ABSTRACT

Forest recreation planning aims at providing and developing forests and forest landscapes as outdoor spaces suitable for people to engage in pleasant and rewarding nature experiences and different forms of recreation. Recreation planning must follow the principles of sustainable multifunctional forestry by:

• safeguarding the natural and cultural features of the forest;

• preventing negative impacts from recreational use on biodiversity and the natural environment;

• proposing and evaluating alternative solutions for dealing with nature and the natural environment more carefully; and

• considering and respecting recreation demands and requirements in forest management and wood production.
