ABSTRACT

A conclusion suggests some kind of ending, some sort of closure to this edited collection. As editors, we feel that this would imply a consensus or agreement about what lies beyond reflective practice which does not exist (nor is it likely to, given the nature of the debate so far). As we summarise below, there are certainly dominant questions and themes which arise from the collection. These are perhaps particularly influenced by the ways in which reflective practice has been ‘incorporated’ into pedagogic and professionalising enterprises, despite its radical potential for professionals seeking to change the social world. Our main suggestion is that the variety of perspectives and ways forward do challenge us to move beyond critique to take account of more complex conceptualisations of work and identity.
