ABSTRACT

The story begins on a note of distrust. A husband is on his way home early one morning, having spent two weeks in Florida. But he has not really been in Florida. Before the husband arrives home, a friend wonders how this behavior will affect the husband’s marriage, while asking where the husband has really been. The husband answers, “What wives don’t know won’t hurt them, and it won’t hurt you either.” However, when the husband arrives home, his wife is not there. She comes home a few minutes later, wearing an evening gown from the night before, accompanied by another man, a young Continental type. As the husband expresses his shock at the situation, the wife realizes that he has been dishonest with her. On a note of mutual distrust, the couple decide to divorce.
