ABSTRACT

Julia Wood and I opened the first edition of Sex Differences and Similarities in Communication with a gentle debate on the topic of similarities and differences between women and men (Wood & Dindia 1998). Julia's interests have changed since then, and she writes about her current passion in this edition. My passion remains unchanged. My professional and personal life is dominated by the three questions we addressed in the first edition of this book: First, are women and men different? Second, if so, what is the cause of these differences? Third, what should be the focus of research on sex and gender differences and similarities in communication?
