ABSTRACT

After reading this Handbook of Test Development, one has to be stunned with the significant progress we have made in test development over the past 40 years, particularly in the last 20. What this handbook makes startlingly clear are the great strides that have been made in bringing a more scientific approach to a profession that was largely based on opinion and intuition forty years ago. The substantive recommendations for practitioners are substantially based on research that has been conducted rather than conveying what has become the “common law” of test development conveyed through advice and opinion through its history.
