ABSTRACT

Research indicates that creative arts counseling is a highly effective intervention in preschool, elementary, middle school, and high school settings. Fall, Balvanz, Johnson, and Nelson (1999) found that children who received play therapy from school counselors experienced a significant increase in self-efficacy in comparison with the control group of children who did not receive play therapy. Johnson, McLeod, and Fall (1997) examined the efficacy of play therapy in school settings and found the intervention had a significant positive impact. Ray, Armstrong, Warren, and Balkin (2005) investigated elementary school counselor beliefs about creative arts counseling in the schools and learned that they strongly believed in its utility.
