ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses issues in professional school counseling regarding the professional activities and development of professional school counselors. Specifically discussed are (a) a brief history of the counseling profession; (b) credentialing, licensure, and accreditation in professional school counseling; (c) networking and collaboration; (d) partnering with local school systems; (e) technology; (f) differences in professional activities for school counselors based on geographical regions (rural, suburban, and urban) and grade levels (elementary, middle, and high school); (g) national, regional, and state school counseling organizations; and (h) the importance of advocacy as an underlying component for professional activities.
