ABSTRACT

This chapter considers the dramatic components of dramatherapy in work with adoptive and long-term foster families, whose children suffered extensive neglect and abuse in their family of origin. Blaming themselves for past rejection, they repeat patterns of interaction from their early years, when they learned to withdraw or become excessively demanding to ensure survival. This dramatherapeutic approach addresses speci®c attachment needs through sensory experience that invites children to explore new ways of being.
