ABSTRACT

In this chapter, the authors illustrate the complexity of the interrelationships between technology, teacher education, and social inequality. More precisely, they describe how infusing technology into a teacher-education program enabled two pre-service teachers of color to fight racism by providing them with the opportunity to “reconfigure” the technology that was available. Before reading this chapter, please consider the following questions:

• What are your schools’ policies regarding access to computer labs and computer use? What is done to address the “digital divide” between affluent students and students who do not have a computer nor Internet access at home?
