ABSTRACT

Does the election of President Barack Obama indicate that America has transcended its sordid racist past? One need only briefly survey news coverage in America since Obama's election to the presidency to confirm that racism is alive and well. The feel-good images of the Obama family the night of the election and the masses that gathered in D.C. for the inauguration were quickly overshadowed as Obama began his day-to-day work as President of the United States. And no matter how racially neutral the president attempted to keep his dealings—race has somehow crept in as a factor on numerous occasions.
