ABSTRACT

Gerald, a 26-year-old accountant, is a bicultural Korean American born to an intact family in the United States. He is a well-groomed and attractive heterosexual single of average height and weight who lives with a male roommate in a large and diverse metropolitan area. Gerald has come into counseling because he is tired of others taking advantage of him. He has been feeling depressed about the way his life has been going. Specifically, Gerald shares that he is disappointed by his work and his prospects for an intimate relationship with a woman. He describes having difficulties with coworkers who do not respect him and tend to dump their work on him. He reports often overhearing workplace conversations focused on how “quiet Asians are.”
