ABSTRACT

The size of Chinese investment has vastly increased on all continents over the last few years. Although fairly recent and admittedly still of modest magnitude, the phenomenon is a milestone change in the world’s economic landscape which has been controlled by industrialized countries for over a century. Actually, the new economic redistribution is not only due to Chinese investors but also to other entrepreneurs from India, Brazil, South Africa and even from smaller countries. It comprises a ‘second wave’ of multinational companies from emerging economies which is taking shape after a ‘first wave’ which lasted from the late 1970s to the mid-1980s.
