This chapter explores the relevance of physical literacy as a lifespan issue with a particular focus on older adults to illustrate the argument. Issues addressed in the chapter include a range of problems associated with the lack of physical activity in the lives of older adults, the reluctance to enjoy being active on a regular basis and some of the reasons for this state of affairs. The discussion will then consider the concept of physical literacy in respect of the adult population and present a case for the promotion of physical literacy as an essential goal in lifelong education. The chapter concludes by bringing together all aspects of the arguments to demonstrate their relationships and to propose an integrated approach to the promotion of physical literacy.
