ABSTRACT

The Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan is one of the 10 most water-stressed countries in the world. Less than fi ve percent of the country’s area contains most of the Jordan Valley’s scarce water resources, including those shared with neighboring countries. The escalating demand on water for both irrigation and domestic purposes is a real challenge that needs to be met with good governance, wise and innovative management, and strong and determined will. The Jordan Valley Authority (JVA), which is in charge of water management and plays a comprehensive role in the socioeconomic development of the Valley, applies a combination of water supply and demand management to face this challenge.
