ABSTRACT

The participants at the workshop on Participation, Voting and Party Competition held at Strasbourg in 1974 would have been delighted had they known their work would be assessed again thirty-two years later. They would not, however, have been entirely surprised. The ‘buzz’ at the second meeting of Rudolph Wildenmann’s great invention – joint sessions of specialized workshops – created expectations that political science would be shaped in key areas by our collective deliberations.
