Men learn from history that men learn nothing from history

For patient and psychoanalyst alike, the field of trauma and madness is largely uncharted territory, in need of further research. But clearly one thing we understand as therapists is that in handling the transference of the traumatized or psychotic patient, the ordinary attitude of neutrality is exactly irrelevant because it is always a matter of war, at whatever scale.
