ABSTRACT

What would you do if your son or daughter had taken his or her life, and you somehow knew that a key to your survival was connecting with others whose losses were just like yours? In 1998, a small group of parents whose lives had been devastated by the suicide death of their children found each other on the Internet and banded together. They formed a small e-mail support “group” on October 9,1998. Their mission was day-to-day survival, nothing more. They voted on the name for the group; Parents of Suicides (POS) won. The mission of POS is to offer understanding, support, information, connections, and hope to parents bereaved by suicide.
