ABSTRACT

Australia has a long history of government and community involvement in the prevention of suicide. In 1995, the Australian Health Ministers embarked on a National Youth Suicide Prevention Strategy (Australian Health Ministers and Commonwealth Department of Human Services and Health, 1995) that culminated in an extensive literature review and report on the key issues in youth suicide nationally and internationally (National Youth Suicide Prevention Strategy, 1999).
