ABSTRACT

The first objective of this paper is to subject the representation in anthropology of rites or rituals surrounding death and the disposal of the dead in Taiwan to a critical re-reading. The second objective is to propose two additional contexts through which to frame these rites of death in order to transform the way we think about these rituals and society and culture in Taiwan more generally.2
