ABSTRACT

This study takes into account not only Bellini’s musical achievements but also his portrayal in the belletristic world, notably in the novel Gli anni perduti by Vitaliano Brancati (reprinted Milan, 1976), as well as in popular literature. Abbadessa examines iconographical sources to try to identify what made Bellini material for portrayal as a typical Sicilian mythic figure, the epitome of a Sicilian “lover” and son as often depicted in Sicilian fiction.
