ABSTRACT

Among other things, the preceding chapters have highlighted the fact that environmental factors have a significant impact on public relations practice around the world. Given the extent of globalization that has occurred especially in the past 10 years, a majority of public relations practice in the twenty-first century has, and will continue to, become multinational and multicultural in nature. Therefore, it is not only the “international public relations professional” who needs to be aware of the differences in cultures, political philosophies, and economic systems, but this knowledge needs to be a part of the repertoire of every public relations professional. In other words, every public relations professional needs to become a multicultural communicator in an ever globalizing world. Therefore, it is pertinent to ask: Is the current public relations education system adequately equipped to train students to become effective multicultural public relations professionals?
