ABSTRACT

SCOTT MILLER has been working with a team of coresearchers for the past 10 years to develop reliable, empirically supported principles for psychotherapy practice. In his book, The Heart and Soul of Change, he and colleagues Mark Hubble and Barry Duncan brought together much of what is currently known about “what works” in therapy into a single volume that informs practitioners about effective treatment. In a series of other books such as The Heroic Client, Escape From Babel, and Psychotherapy with Impossible Cases the team of coworkers talk about the crucial role that clients play in their own treatments. Scott has also written extensively about solution-focused therapy in several books, Handbook of Solution-Focused Brief Therapy, The Miracle Method, and Working with the Problem Drinker. The hallmark of his writing and teaching voice is a blending of scientific thinking with a gentle sensitivity to human experience.
