ABSTRACT

A clear and comprehensive understanding of family systems includes an understanding of family structure, family development, and the role that family-of-origin issues have on a person’s emotional and intellectual development. Understanding the family as a system is critical for couples to be able to adequately deal with the stresses they will face as they progress through the life cycle. In this chapter, we describe experiential and intergenerational methods used in the PAIRS program to promote personal exploration, which begin during Session 7 of the PAIRS semester course.
