Globalization’s impact on threat perceptions and defence postures in South Asia

For the purpose of this chapter, South Asia has been taken to cover India, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Bhutan and the Maldives. Even though China is not considered a part of South Asia, it has common borders with some of the countries of the region and their threat perceptions are influenced by the China factor. There cannot, therefore, be any meaningful discussion on this subject without a reference to this factor.
