ABSTRACT

In international relations, as in everyday life, relations between actors exist both in terms of social interaction and in terms of interactions between images of the actors. The manner in which actors manage and project their images will thus inevitably play a key role in the field of foreign policy and transatlantic relations. The key word here is perceptions, and related to this concept, according to Robert Jervis, we can point to the existence of two environments: 1 first, the operational milieu: reality as it truly exists, in which the policies will be carried out; second, the psychological milieu: reality as the actor perceives it.
