ABSTRACT
The status of the South African Construction Industry (SACI) and its development should be gauged within the context of society’s development and challenges. This context according to the Construction Industry Development Board (CIDB)(CIDB 2004) is both global and local. It includes the specific direction of construction industry development in South Africa as well as the broader socio-economic trends and policies that affect the industry.
