ABSTRACT

Why Do So Many of Our Clients Appear Unmotivated for Mental Health Treatment? Mental health treatment is collaborative, and that is its greatest virtue and most serious limitation. Mental health clinicians have an enormous amount to oer people in emotional distress if we can convince them to make use of our services. Because many people who need mental health care do not seek it out and may resist it, mental health providers must also develop skill in soliciting client engagement. We can call this phase of our work, when we try to educate and motivate clients into informed participation in mental health care, pretreatment.
