ABSTRACT

The analysis of the physical activity that a football player completes during competition is a basic reference point when establishing the means and loads in the planning of training. Volume and intensity of the player’s activity during the match are essential measures in the rating of effort. Several authors have highlighted the importance of the activity that the player does at a high intensity, as a key to distinguish the player’s strain level (Bangsbo et al.,1991; Möhr et al., 2003),

The diversity of the applied methodologies, as well as the characteristics and size of the samples analysed, diminishes the reference value of the results. Therefore some authors classify players in three (Bangsbo et al., 1991; Drust et al., 1998) or four different positions (Reilly and Thomas,1976).
