ABSTRACT

Within an educational and sport context, researchers have also viewed motivation from a multidimensional perspective as containing intrinsic, extrinsic and amotivational factors. Motivation, especially intrinsic motivation, is the foundation of sport performance and achievement. Vallerand and Losier (1999) proposed that intrinsic motivation (IM) which refers to doing an activity for the inherent satisfaction of the activity itself, and extrinsic motivation (EM) referring to the performance of an activity in order to attain some separable outcome, have three dimensions such as: IM to know, IM toward accomplishment, IM to experience stimulation; and for EM, external regulation, introjection and identification.
