Muslim adolescents and emerging adults make up the largest segment of Muslim communities in Western nations (Open Society Institute [OSI], 2005; Zogby, 2001). ey are o‹en scrutinized for fear of being the next homegrown terrorists and experience pressures of Islamophobia during an already challenging developmental period. As such, they may be at higher risk for mental health issues and may present with symptoms that are imbedded within a particular sociocultural-religious context. As such, clinicians need to understand issues facing Muslim youth so that they can conduct e¬ective religious and culturally sensitive treatment interventions.
