ABSTRACT
The Daily Mail is a newspaper which raises hackles in polite society. This may be because its success, at a time when other newspapers look around them and despair, arouse jealousy; it may be because it is an unashamedly conservative newspaper, and the opinion-mouthing classes are more anti-conservative than pro; or it may be for other reasons, of which more later.
