ABSTRACT

The purpose of this essay is to contribute to the reconceptualization of education through the conceptualization of indigenous knowledge. In its attempt to widen a perspective that reduces education to “schooling”, this essay pleads for the validation of indigenous knowledge. Thus, it is essential to contextualize the problem of study. This permits a clear view of the social construction of reality in a “given space and time.” The context of this essay is settled among indigenous peoples of Peru. “Indigenous” peoples are assumed here to be the peoples who were or are colonized by the Western world.
