Throughout the history of counseling psychology, vocational psychology has been, and continues as, a strong and vibrant eld. Vocational psychology has contributed signicantly to the identity of counseling psychology and to the development of a unique and important knowledge base (Brown & Lent, 2005; Fouad, 2007; Phillips & Imhoff, 1997; Walsh & Savickas, 2005). The fact that a chapter on vocational psychology is appearing in the inaugural issue of the Biennial Reiew of Counseling Psychology underscores the critical importance of the psychological study of working to the current status and future directions of counseling psychology.
